The founders of Ben and Jerrys ice cream speak out in favor of marijuana infused ice cream. Saying specifically that they think it would be a good idea and that having marijuana legalized nationally would be a step in the right direction rather than having poorly reasoned drug laws in place to feed the prison system’s insatiable need for new incarcerations.

Unfortunately neither Ben nor Jerry have any real authority at the company they founded. While they duo of founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield did in fact start the iconic ice cream brand in Burlington Vermont back in 1978, In April 2000 the pair sold the entire company to Anglo-Dutch multinational food giant Unilever for a reported 326 Millions dollars. At the time Unilever reportedly said it hopes to carry on the tradition of engaging “in these critical, global economic and social missions”, and while the two founders names are still attached to the product, they do not hold any board or management position and are not involved in day-to-day management of the company.

That makes Marijuana Mocha or CoCo Cannabis unlikely flavors to appear on the company’s menu in the coming months, but it’s still good to see rational people like Ben and Jerry speaking up in favor of the basic humans rights to medical care, recreational enjoyment and freedom from frivolous imprisonment.
